Ohio Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Marshall

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio track and field team makes their 2017-18 indoor season debut when they travel to Huntington, W. Va. to compete in a dual meet versus Marshall. Competition is set to begin on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7:15 p.m. in the Cline Indoor Athletic Facility.

Ohio and Marshall will be competing in several events such as the 60m dash, 60m hurdles, 300m dash, 400m dash, 600m run, 800m run, 4x400m relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, and weight throw.

The Bobcats open the indoor season at Marshall for the third time in the last four years. Ohio will also return to Huntington to meet the Thundering Herd two other times this indoor season, at the Thundering Herd Invitational (Jan. 26-27) and the Chipotle Marshall Invitational (Feb. 9-10).

Ohio track and field competed at the 2017 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships where the Bobcats placed 12th after the two-day event. The 'Cats had several top-eight finishers in both running and field events.

Running Events
Graduated Senior Amelia Milton (Elton Rutland, England) entered the final round of the 800m run after running a preliminary time of 2:13.28 to place sixth. In the finals, she finished eighth overall with a final time of 2:13.62 to earn a spot on the podium.

Now junior Alyssa Atkinson (Granville, Ohio) placed sixth in the conference after posting a 3K time of 9:43.18.

Field Events
In the high jump, graduated senior Taylor Smith (Canal Winchester, Ohio) rounded out the top eight with a jump reaching 1.68m (5' 6").

Graduated senior Olivia Mayfield (Beachwood, Ohio) placed 10th for Ohio in the long jump after reaching 5.78m (18' 11.75").

Now senior Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) placed sixth overall in the shot put after throwing a 15.18m (49' 9.75") distance.

Now junior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) posted a distance of 17.88m (58' 8") to place seventh overall in the weight throw.

After concluding the dual at Marshall, the Bobcats will enter a winter hiatus until competition resumes in 2018. Ohio will travel to Youngstown State to take on the Penguins at the YSU Invitational on Jan. 19, 2018.
