Ohio Track and Field to Compete at YSU College Invitational

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio track and field team packs their bags and heads to the YSU College Invitational this Friday (Jan. 19) hosted by Youngstown State. Events are scheduled to begin tentatively at 12:30 p.m. on a rolling time schedule.

The Bobcats head to Youngstown after kicking off the indoor season at the 2017 Marshall Opener (Dec. 7). The Bobcats fell to the Thundering Herd in an 82-28 battle, however, senior Jordan Porter qualified for the Indoor MAC Championships with her performance in the shot put.

On the field
In the first event of the Opener, sophomore Keilah Causey (Gahanna, Ohio) picked up a fourth-place finish in the long jump reaching 4.75m.

Junior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) placed first for the 'Cats and third overall in the weight throw event reaching 16.55m.

Sophomore Atiya Spaulding (Chesapeake, Ohio) recorded a third-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.58m to score for the 'Cats.

Junior Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) wrapped up the field events with a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.00m. This performance automatically qualifies Porter for the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships that will be held in February at MAC rival, Bowling Green.

On the track
Ohio's top scorer in the 60-meter hurdles was senior Mya Hodge (Dublin, Ohio). Hodge finished in third crossing with a 9.01 time.

Senior Courtney Guiley (Louisville, Ohio) posted a time of 7.99 to take third in the 60-meter dash, qualifying her for the finals.

In the 600-meter run, Ohio placed third with sophomore Marissa Handel (Highland Heights, Ohio) coming in at 1:43.70.

Ohio secured fourth place in the 800-meter run with junior Erin Stewart (Chardon, Ohio), clocking in at 2:28.47.

Junior Callyn Voase (Mentor, Ohio) finished the 300-meter dash in fourth place after clocking in a time of 46.05.

The Opener concluded with a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay with Stewart, Brewer, Causey, and Handel finishing in 4:25.77.
