Ohio Track and Field Concludes Day One of MAC Championships Tied for Second Place

Buffalo, N.Y. – Ohio track and field wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Buffalo.

The Bobcats are currently in a three-way tie for second place with a total of 16 points along with MAC rivals, Bowling Green and Central Michigan after securing five top-eight finishes.

Sophomore Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) opened up the weekend of competition competing in the heptathlon where she ended day one in eighth place with a total of 2,630 points after four events.

The sophomore started the day in the 100m hurdles clocking in a time of 16.08 to place ninth and placed seventh overall in the high jump with a jump of 1.47m. In the shot put, she recorded a throw of 11.73m to place fourth and finished with a top-10 performance in the 200m dash clocking in a time of 27.20.

Field Events
Junior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) placed third in the hammer throw and earned a spot on the podium with a throw of 55.23. Senior Cassidy Cleland (Reedsville, Ohio) and freshman Abby Moore (Rootstown, Ohio) also competed and recorded throws of 47.24m and 46.47m respectively to place 14th and 16th overall.

In the javelin throw, Ohio added two more podium-finishes from senior Emma Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) and Haley. Ryan placed finished third with a throw of 43.66m and Haley placed eighth with a throw of 40.31. Rounding out the competing Bobcats was freshman Sophie Yantko who placed 17th with a throw of 33.04.

Running Events
In the 1500m trials, Ohio sophomore Melissa Koziol (Burton, Ohio) and junior Josie Woosley (Pataskala, Ohio) placed 18th and 20th with times of 4:50.94 and 4:54.01, respectively.

The Bobcats ended the day with two top-eight performances in the 10K from junior Alyssa Atkinson (Granville, Ohio) and senior Ellen Isaac (Mansfield, Ohio). Atkinson clocked in a time of 35:32.74 to place seventh and Isaac clocked in a time to 35:44.28 to place eighth. Also representing Ohio was sophomore Tiffany Hill (Dublin, Ohio) who placed 20th with a final time of 37:47.80.
