HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Ohio track and field kicked off the 2019 indoor season at the Marshall Women's Classic on Saturday (Jan. 12) where they placed fourth with a score of 70.5. The Bobcats competed with Marshall, Duquesne, James Madison, Wright State, Cleveland State and Morehead State.
Senior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) placed first overall in the weight throw reaching a mark of 18.81m. Sophomore Abby Moore (Rootstown, Ohio) placed fourth with a throw of 17.55m. Moore also placed second for Ohio in the shot put with a distance of 12.96m. Freshman Autumn Mohan (Chillicothe, Ohio) finished sixth with a throw of 12.31m.
Junior Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) recorded a two way tie third-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.57m.
Junior Ashleigh Carr (Oakland, Neb.) took first place in the 400m dash with a time of 57.80 seconds. In the 1-mile run, junior Melissa Koziol (Burton, Ohio) finished third with a time of 5:05.27 with senior Madison Sury (Waterford, Ohio) finishing close behind in fifth with a time of 5:10.24.
In the 60-meter dash finals, sophomore Abby Summers (Powell, Ohio) finished seventh with a time of 8:04 seconds. Summers would also finish seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 26.01.
The Bobcats will return to action this Friday (Jan.18) to compete at the YSU Invitational at Youngstown State University.
