ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio track & field team had a busy Saturday (April 27), with some members of the team making the trip to Columbus for the Jesse Owens Track Classic while other competed at the Bobcats' own Ohio Open at Goldsberry Track at Pruitt Field.
Redshirt junior Ashleigh Carr (Oakland, Neb.) turned in the standout performance of the day at the Jesse Owns Track Classic, clocking a personal-best 59.34 to win the 400-meter hurdles. Her time was good for the second-fastest in school history. Redshirt junior Madison Sury (Waterford, Ohio) also produced a second-place finish in section one of the 5000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 17:37.97.
The Bobcats came away with several solid performances at the Ohio Open. Freshman Madelyn Bartolone (Massillon, Ohio) won the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:50.08. Redshirt freshman Jessica Hartman (Lebanon, Ohio) earned a win 5000-meter run with a first-place time of 18:36.58. Junior Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) won the high jump with a personal-best mark of 1.58 meters and also took first place in the javelin throw with a toss of 40.26 meters. Ohio claimed the top three spots in the discus throw with freshman Rachel Simpson (Port Clinton, Ohio) taking first with a toss of 41.73 meters, freshman Autumn Mohan (Chillicothe, Ohio) placing second with a toss of 41.12 meters and redshirt freshman Emma Russ (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) finishing third with a toss of 40.18 meters.
Ohio will be back in action on May 4 at the Mountaineer Open in Morgantown, W. Va.
