Ohio Track & Field Turns In Strong Performances At Mountaineer Open


MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -- The Ohio track & field team turned in several strong performances today at the Mountaineer Open, highlighted by senior Alyssa Atkinson (Granville, Ohio) winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:29.42.

The Bobcats claimed the top-three spots in the hammer throw, with reshirt freshman Emma Russ (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) taking first with a toss of 47.90 meters, freshman Autumn Mohan (Chillicothe, Ohio) finishing second with a throw of 45.53 meters and freshman Rachel Simpson (Port Clinton, Ohio) placing third with a toss of 44.10 meters. 

Simpson and Mohan also produced top-three finishes in the discus throw. Simpson was second with a toss of 43.33 meters while Mohan posted a third-place finish with a throw of 42.86 meters.

In the shot put, Mohan took second with a throw of 12.61 meters while junior Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) finished third with a throw of 11.58 meters.

Haley came up with another top-three finish in the long jump, placing second with a mark of 5.05 meters. Freshman Halie Sciury claimed third place with a 4.95-meter jump.

Freshman Jocelyn Knauss (Strongsville, Ohio) finished second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:39.82. Sophomore Olivia Brewer (Mount Gilead, Ohio) clocked a 12.63 in the 100-meter dash to claim third, and freshman Stephanie Pierce (Fairborn, Ohio) crossed the finish line in 2:17.15 to finish third in the 800-meter run.

Ohio will be in Muncie, Ind., next week (May 9-11) for the 2019 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
