CLEVELAND -- Sophomore setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy) of the Ohio volleyball team (11-14, 6-6 MAC) has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Setter of the Week, as announced by the league office today.
Giacomazzi earned MAC East Division Setter of the Week honors for the second time in 2018. She also earned distinction on Sept. 24. Three Bobcats have earned conference weekly award honors. Sophomore middle blocker Tia Jimerson (Sugar Hill, Ga.), was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4 while redshirt senior outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22.
Giacomazzi led Ohio with 81 assists (13.50 per set) last weekend as the Bobcats swept both MAC East Division rival Kent State and MAC West Division foe Eastern Michigan. She distributed 43 assists as the Bobcats earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) road win over the Golden Flashes last Thursday (Oct. 25), then notched 38 assists in the 3-0(25-14, 27-25, 25-13) victory over the Eagles at home at the Convocation Center on Saturday (Oct. 27).
Through 25 matches in 2018, Giacomazzi leads Ohio with 843 assists (8.87 per set), which is good for third in the MAC. She has tallied 40 or more assists nine times, including in eight of the last 12 matches.
Ohio will play its final two road contests of the 2018 regular season this weekend, battling a pair of MAC East Division rivals. The Bobcats will take on Akron next Friday (Nov. 2) in a 7 p.m. match at James A. Rhodes Arena, then visit Alumni Arena on Saturday (Nov. 3) for a 6 p.m. match against Buffalo.
