ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio volleyball team (11-14, 6-6 MAC) will play its final two road matches of the 2018 regular season this weekend, visiting two of its Mid-American Conference East Division rivals. The Bobcats meet Akron (11-12, 3-9 MAC) on Friday (Nov. 2) at 7 p.m. at James A. Rhodes Arena, then take on Buffalo (14-10, 6-6 MAC) on Saturday (Nov. 3) at 6 p.m. at Alumni Arena.

GIACOMAZZI NAMED MAC EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK AGAIN
Sophomore setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy) was named the MAC East Division Setter of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday (Oct. 29).
Giacomazzi earned MAC East Division Setter of the Week honors for the second time in 2018. She also earned distinction on Sept. 24. Three Bobcats have earned conference weekly award honors. Sophomore middle blocker Tia Jimerson (Sugar Hill, Ga.), was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4 while redshirt senior outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22.
Giacomazzi led Ohio with 81 assists (13.50 per set) last weekend as the Bobcats swept both MAC East Division rival Kent State and MAC West Division foe Eastern Michigan last weekend. She distributed 43 assists as the Bobcats earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) road win over the Golden Flashes last Thursday (Oct. 25), then notched 38 assists in the 3-0(25-14, 27-25, 25-13) victory over the Eagles at home at the Convocation Center on Saturday (Oct. 27).
Through 25 matches in 2018, Giacomazzi leads Ohio with 843 assists (8.87 per set), which is good for third in the MAC. She has tallied 40 or more assists nine times, including in eight of the last 12 matches.
SERIES HISTORY VS. AKRON
The Bobcats hold a 37-23 (.617) lead in the all-time series with the Zips. Ohio swept Akron, 3-0, (25-21, 25-14, 25-22), on Sept. 29 in the first meeting of the season between the teams at the Convo. Junior outside hitter Lizzie Stephens (Dallas, Texas) registered a team-high 10 kills on 30 total attempts for a .267 hitting percentage to lead the Bobcats. Stephens also registered a match-high three service aces for the Bobcats. Kosiorek registered seven kills and 11 digs while redshirt senior right side hitter Katie Nelson (Regina, Saskatchewan) and junior middle blocker Sara Januszewski (Oak Creek, Wis.) both compiled four kills and six total blocks for the Bobcats. Redshirt junior middle blocker Simone Miller (Kalamazoo, Mich) chipped in four assisted blocks. Giacomazzi registered a match-high 26 assists and also posted seven digs while sophomore libero/defensive specialist Macy Reihing (Lexington, Kentucky) recorded a team-high 14 digs.
SERIES HISTORY VS. BUFFALO
Ohio is 38-4 (.905) all-time against Buffalo. The Bobcats suffered a tough 3-2 (25-22, 17-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-9) loss to the Bulls on Sept. 28 in the first meeting of the year between the two squads at the Convo. Stephens and Kosiorek each registered a team-high 15 kills to lead the Bobcats. Stephens also recorded a double-double with 13 compiled digs and tallied a team-high two service aces. Kosiorek was one dig away from a double-double with nine recorded digs. Followed closely behind, Nelson and Januszewski both compiled 11 kills for the Bobcats while Miller registered a match-high five assisted blocks for the Bobcats. Nelson also added four assisted blocks. Giacomazzi registered a match-high 53 assists while Reihing recorded a match-high 24 digs. Junior libero/defensive specialist Meredith Howe (Grand Rapids, Mich.) chipped in 12 digs.
Ohio closes out the 2018 regular season with a pair of home matches against MAC East Division rivals next weekend. The Bobcats will take on Bowling Green next Friday (Nov. 9) at 7 p.m., then square off against archrival Miami in a 6 p.m. Battle of the Bricks matchup on Saturday (Nov. 10). Ohio will honor its three seniors prior to Saturday's match -- Kosiorek, right side hitter Stephanie Olman (Maumee, Ohio) and right side hitter Katie Nelson (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada).
