WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ohio volleyball team (1-3) heads to Washington D.C. this weekend to play in the American Volleyball Classic. Ohio will face Temple and American on Friday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., before finishing the tournament on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. against Winthrop.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Ohio went 1-3 last weekend, earning a sweep over Northeastern for their first win of the season.
- Senior outside hitter Lizzie Stephens (Dallas, Texas) tied a program record with nine aces in the three-set sweep. Former Ohio Bobcat Jamie Kosiorek also had nine aces against Buffalo in 2015. Stephens ended the match with a team-high 11 digs and put up three kills.
- Ohio took No. 17 Purdue to the wire after taking the first set and losing the third set, 31-29, in the four setter. Freshman outside hitter Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) had a breakout match after posting a career-best 14 kills. Margolies hit .379 on 29 swings and also added a dig in the match.
- Stephens posted her second double-double of the season after posting 12 kills and 10 digs against the Boilermakers.
Temple is 3-0 after sweeping Fairfield, Lafayette and UMBC in the UMBC Invitational. Gem Grimshaw leads the way for the Owls at 3.78 kills per set and is hitting .367 this season. Peyton Boyd and Katerina Papazoglou are each averaging 2.33 kills per set. Tyler Lindgren is averaging 9.22 assists per set and is helping Temple hit .310 as a team.
American started the year 2-1 after taking down George Washington and Howard while losing to Hartford during the opening weekend. Helena Elbaek is averaging 6.50 kills per set, while Onuchi Ndee, Asli Celikkol and Aleksandra Sochacka are all averaging over three kills per set. American is hitting .242 as a team and is averaging 18.25 digs per set.
Winthrop is 3-0 after beating Morehead State, Davidson and NC A&T during the Cristi Curtis Invitational last weekend. Winthrop is hitting .182 as a team and Nikkia Benitez leads the way with 2.46 kills per set. Sydney Gunter, Morgan Bossler and Jace Kleffner all average over two kills per set.
