ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (6-4) is set to hit the road for its final non-conference action of the season when it plays in the North Texas Challenge. 

The Bobcats begin the weekend on Thursday (Sept. 19) against New Mexico at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT. Ohio is back in action on Friday (Sept. 20) against Kansas State at 3:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. CT and will wrap up the North Texas Challenge on Saturday (Sept. 21) against host North Texas at 1:30 p.m. ET/2:30 CT.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Ohio went 3-0 last weekend and won the Bobcat Invitational presented by Texas Roadhouse. Ohio swept UConn, Charleston and Virginia in the tournament. 
  • Junior setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy) won the tournament MVP award, while junior middle blocker Tia Jimerson (Sugar Hill, Ga.) and junior libero Macy Reihing (Lexington, Ky.) were named all-tournament. 
  • Jimerson was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week after On defense, Jimerson had 10 total blocks (three solo, seven assisted) in the two matches. Jimerson was one short of career-high with seven stuffs (two solo, five assisted) in the sweep of UVA and put up one solo and two assisted blocks in OU's sweep of UConn. On offense, Jimerson committed just one error in six sets on the floor while hitting a scorching .577. Jimerson racked up 16 total kills, including nine kills on 15 swings with zero errors in Ohio's sweep of Virginia. Over the two sweeps, Jimerson averaged 1.67 blocks per set, 2.67 kills per set and 3.8 points per set. Jimerson was the top blocker of the Bobcat Invitational.
  • Giacomazzi ranks No. 8 in the nation in total assists with 412. Senior outside hitter Lizzie Stephens ranks No. 10 in the nation in total aces with 22.
